**People travel to Mecca. My Mecca is wherever my Beloved lives.**

This single declaration by Hazrat Bulleh Shah changed the way millions of people understand devotion. He does not reject pilgrimage. He transcends it. Why search for God in a distant city when the Beloved already lives in your own heart?

In this kalam, Ranjha — the Beloved — is his Kaaba. His sacred direction of prayer is not a compass point — it is love itself. And love, says Bulleh Shah, needs no map.

He goes further: among the pilgrims, the warriors, the scholars — he also sees thieves and hypocrites. The outer journey is no guarantee of inner arrival. But the one who has found the Beloved within — that person has already reached their destination, wherever they stand.

Meaning of the Kalam

People go to Mecca on pilgrimage — my Ranjha, my Beloved, is my Mecca. I am mad with love. I have surrendered to Ranjha alone. My own family pushes me away. Pilgrims go toward Mecca — but in my home lives my Beloved, and that is my Mecca. Among the pilgrims you will find the devoted and also the thief. I will go to Takht Hazara — wherever my Beloved turns, that is my Kaaba. Open all four scriptures — the truth is only this.

Original Kalam — Hazrat Bulleh Shah
